Sticks and stones may break bones, but words can shatter families. My name's Daniel, I'm 20 and this is my poetry blog. Hope you like it.

Awake me from my slumber
Awake me from this bliss
We are all victims suffering
From ignorance’s lisp.

Growing pains divide us
But are part of who we are
Let’s move forward to adolescence
Forgetting childhood scars.

Certainty’s improbable
On our search for clarity
But an anomaly I’ve discovered:
Leaving childhood’s a rarity.

Wisdom tried coming to visit
But on the highway
She was unsure which exit to take
And ended up somewhere else.

Wisdom tried to get you a gift
But didn’t know what you needed
So he bought you nothing
Except for a birthday wish.

Wisdom tried buying groceries
But she left empty-handed
Flustered by the question
“Cash or credit?”

Wisdom tried getting married
But he got cold feet
And left his decisions
At the alter.

Wisdom wishes
That the curtain of certainty
Was black and white
But at least she is certain
Of her own uncertainty.

Walking along the lines
Of perception’s deceptions
Calloused and curving,
Bending and breaking.

Your days are numbered,
But mine are lettered
Reality’s amiss
On this ghost train travelling
To nowhere.

Certainly certainty
Is a lucrative luxury
Slowly seeping
Through life’s sieve.

Truth exists
Like the sands on the shore.
It lives between the tips of our toes -
Warming our feet,
Then washing away.

Truth exists
Like the moon in the sky.
Full, big and illuminating
Lighting our darkness,
Then deteriorating each day.

Truth exists
Like the days of Summer.
Its warmth, laughter and optimism
Is conquered by brevity,
Then again by Autumn’s leaves.

Truth exists
And is not destroyed by lies,
But by brevity.

I am a tidal wave
Potential energy builds and bubbles
Beneath the surface.
Eruption’s subduction
Into the depths
And out through the waves.

I am a hurricane
Hungering for a balanced diet
Eating chocolate for dinner
And being unable to move a dandelion.

I am world war three
Explosions and destruction exist
Only in the movies.
The world is ending not with a bang -
But with a whimper
And we are all
Whimpering.

A closed mouth is a paradox
Words are just grains of sand washed on the shore,
Open your mouth -
The words slip out
And land right down on the floor.

The loudest people
Have got sealed lips -
The greatest words ever spoken
Came from the tongue
Of a mute.

It’s paradoxical by nature
Against all the instincts in our gut,
But our words come out much louder
When our mouths are shut.

Jigsaw puzzle of actions
In the shape
Of a human.

Jigsaw puzzle of words
In the shape
Of a snake.

The mouth speaks words
And it bites -
No coincidence.

The pieces of your puzzle
Define you.

It’s world war three
Where everyone is at war
With themselves.

It’s an international civil war
And it’s already begun:
Putting sisters against brothers
And mothers against sons.

Globalized village
With our enemies unclear -
Saftey’s certainly uncertain;
We have more than just fear
To fear.

Give me ignorance or give me death
I’m living in a rose-garden
Surrounded by a nuclear wasteland
That I can’t see.

My eyes realize
Perfection’s a perception -
We live in a world of our imagination
Dominated by a culture of lies.

We are what we think
Reality’s amiss -
We exist in the realm
Of ignorance’s bliss.

Angelic Excess
Creeps into
The devil’s playground.

Morality teeter-totters
While our humanity swings.
Compassion is scraped,
Bruised and buried in gravel
By ambition’s cold shoulder.

Be careful -
A kingdom’s most vulnerable
While it’s building its walls.
